Where the Next Major Banking Crisis Will Begin

Italy’s banking system is a ticking time bomb. Its banks are sitting on $356 billion worth of non-performing loans (NPLs). As if that weren’t enough, these sour loans are valued at around 20% of Italy’s annual economic output. European regulators are now scrambling to prevent a banking crisis. A banking crisis in Italy could spread across Europe like the black plague.

Can Silver keep Soaring on Lack of Market Risk Appetite?

A difference of opinion is emerging in the markets over whether silver can extend its recent strong gains. The price of silver rose more than 6% on Friday and another 4% early Monday to top $21 per ounce for the first time since 2014. The uncertainty in Europe caused by Brexit will continue. Add into the mix fears over Italian banks, & investors will continue to flock to silver & other precious metals.

Eurozone in Danger on Falling Purchasing Power of Dollar, Not Rising Commodity Prices

All financial prices in the Eurozone are badly skewed. So far, the price inflation environment has been benign, but this year, things have been changing. Higher levels of debt will never allow the ECB to run interest rates up sufficiently to kill price inflation. More likely, positive rates of only one or two per cent would be enough to destabilise the Eurozone’s financial system.
